VARLA Members Meet With Vermont Lawmakers, Community Leaders
March 10 – Montpelier: The Vermont Association of REALTORS® Leadership Academy (VARLA) gathered in Montpelier on March 10 for a day focused on advocacy, public policy, and Vermont’s economic future. The meeting was held ahead of VAR’s annual Legislative Reception and provided Academy participants with an opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the issues shaping Vermont’s housing market and economy.
The day included a discussion led by VAR’s Government Affairs Director, Peter Tucker, who provided an overview of VAR’s advocacy efforts at the Statehouse. Tucker shared insights into the key legislative issues the association is actively monitoring and engaging on during the current session, along with how REALTORS® play an important role in supporting policies that promote property rights, housing opportunity, and strong communities across Vermont.
Academy members also heard from Megan Sullivan, the Vermont Chamber of Commerce Vice President of Government Affairs. Sullivan highlighted the Chamber’s priorities during the legislative session and how collaboration among business and industry groups helps advance policies that strengthen Vermont’s economic environment.
The group then welcomed Kevin Chu, Executive Director of the Vermont Futures Project, who presented a data driven look at Vermont’s economy. Chu shared research and benchmarks that track the state’s economic performance and growth potential, along with insights into workforce trends, housing challenges, and opportunities that could shape Vermont’s future.
Following the morning presentations, the VARLA class participated in a legislative issues briefing at the Vermont Statehouse. The briefing prepared participants for meetings with lawmakers later in the day, where they had the opportunity to discuss issues important to the real estate industry and the communities REALTORS® serve.
