ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Rural economic development in Vermont has transitioned from forestry and agriculture to rural tourism, niche manufacturing and recreation. Vermont ranks second in the nation in the value that outdoor recreation contributes to the state GDP. Small businesses in Vermont account for over 60% of our current workforce.

VAR POSITION

VAR encourages the state to maximize the use of federal funds to stabilize businesses and stimulate economic growth. We support economic incentives (TIF districts, etc.) that encourage new businesses to locate here.

VAR supports policies that encourage tourism, the businesses that provide recreational opportunities and the support businesses that thrive because of the tourism economy.
