NAR Professional Standards
This class is designed by NAR to train REALTORS® on the deeper purposes of the Code of Ethics. This course is also used to train and certify those who will be working with Professional Standard Committees as well as local board leaders. Some of the objectives will be:
• List the major categories of the Articles in the Code (Duties to Clients and Customers, Duties to the Public, and Duties to REALTORS®).
• Identify concepts in the Preamble to the Code of Ethics, including concepts such as the wide distribution of land ownership; highest and best use of the land; principles of competency, fairness, and high integrity; and the concept of adhering to the Code, regardless of inducement of profit and/or instruction from clients to the contrary.
• Describe, generally, how ethics complaints and arbitration complaints are processed, including who is eligible to file complaints, the difference between an ethics and an arbitration complaint, and the difference between the grievance committee and the professional standards/arbitration committee.
This course will count towards the NAR Code of Ethics requirement that is due December 31, 2027.
This class is hybrid and will be held live (at EastRise in Williston, VT) and online (via Microsoft Teams) simultaneously. While we understand attending online may be the most convenient, we do encourage all those who are able to attend in person for the best experience.
